After hours of sifting through mounds of mud and rocks at landslide sites caused by Monday's torrential rain in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, the rescuers recovered six more bodies on Tuesday. Over a dozen people were reported missing from different parts of the district. A search and rescue operation launched by the district administration with the help of the National Disaster Response Force is still on. CM Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday conducted an aerial survey of the flash flood afected area of Boh in Shahpur assembly constituency of Kangra district and announced a relief of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the dead as well as financial help to those whose houses were damaged. Five people are missing from Rulehad village of Boh Valley, another from Brian near Samirpur, while around 5 to 7 people are missing from Lamdal near Kareri. The estimated damage to public and private property as of now has been put at Rs 57 crore. This does not include the damage in Shahpur sub-division which is till being assessed. Kangra deputy commission Dr Nipun Jindal said a body of a woman was recovered at Rulehad village on Monday and another four cropses were found on Tuesday. While five people bureid under debris have been extricated, another five are still missing. It all happened very quickly. The dim and slanting beam of their motercycle's headlight had suddenly fallen on two tigers lazing around a road that cut through the jungles of Pilibhit. It was dark, the rider panicked and the three men fell right next to the big cats. The animals sprung their huge paws outstretched. Vikas Kumar's two friends were killed within minutes. He survived though. One of the tigers had grabbed him by the head. But he was wearing a helmet. During the investigation ED came to know that in 2006, Flourish Properties Pvt Ltd, a company controlled by Deshumuk's son Hrishikesh, gave a Rs 1.41 crore loan to Premier Port Links Pvt Ltd for purchasing the plots in Uran. Deshmukh could not be contacted for his reaction.
